Joel and i went to a seminar about fire prevention...it included a free dinner at Rodizio Grill. The seminar included 6 things you should do ever 6 months to help prevent house fires. I thought i would share.
1-Clean behind your fridge
2-shake fire extinguishers (fire extinguishers need to be all metal)
3-clean behind washer and dryer
4-change smoke detector batteries
5-do home fire drills (no matter what stage of life you are in)
6-clean around your furnace and hot water heater
This seminar was really informative. You need to clean around all of these major appliances because dust and lint collect around them. appliances run off of electricity which can surge of spark and start a fire the dust/lint is great kindling for a fire. They told a story of a couple that didn't discuss a meeting place so after both the husband and wife had gotten out safely but didn't see each other the husband went back in and died looking for his wife in the fire. If we ever have a fire Anderson's expect a knock on your door. The fire extinguishers need to be all metal because the plastic handles have been known to break. Also, surge protectors should be wall mounted instead of left of the floor. You should keep an all metal fire extinguisher by your bed in case you need to clear a path to get out. You also should keep a bat or something that will break a window by your bed because windows expand when hot and you probably won't be able to slide them open. They also recommended you unplug all electrical appliance that are not in use like toasters and flat irons etc. The seminar was so informative. Sorry for the downer post but i thought it was good info to share.
