Advice please
How do you pick a good pediatrician? I have asked some mom's and they gave me some recommendations. After checking out the recommendations they are either not covered by our insurance or they will not immunize on an alternative schedule. Immunizing on an alternative schedule is very important to me. I am meeting with a doctor Thursday morning but don't have a lot to ask...HELP! I need to know what to ask him to know if he will take good care of my little girl. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid.

I'm probably the exact opposite of you...i'm not paranoid at all. But I do love my pediatrician- and here is why, I always like what he says, it seems to make sense to my mom ears & heart. He shares the same values i do in raising kids and has the same laid back attitude that I have. And that's how I decided on Parker's pediatrician. But i didn't meet with them until the day he was born, again...I'm a little on the laid back side. So that's what I think- good luck, and really they aren't NEARLY that important. You are her primary provider.
Lynn! Alternative schedule?!! You have bought into a study that was done 20 years ago and shortly there after was debunked by the very same researchers realizing their study had no merit. The media had already announced the study and it was too late, because women everywhere believe Katie Couric and Oprah over there doctor. If these pediatricians won't use an alternative schedule it's probably because they are doctors that don't want to be part of something that's not in the best interest of their patient. Pull your head out!!

PS If you want a good pediatrician, ask the pediatric nurses at the hospital where your insurance is covered.
Hey Tera
I looked up on a google search patient reviews of doctors close by. I started within a close proximity of my house, then narrowed it down by (1) do they have an after hours clinic (2)Will the doctor call you back.(3) how long is the average wait. I don't think there are "good" pediatricians until you have tested them out with a sick kid. If they quickly dismiss you and your concerns they suck. As far as alternative immunizations go, I have never bought into it. Your kids may get reaction to immunizations but it is rare and the benefits far outweigh the negative. I personally think having an infant with pertusis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis would be FAR worse to deal with than a little fever. I think people kind of forgot those diseases took out thousands and thousands of people, that is why we immunize now. Good luck.. I will still think you are great even if you become a hippy :)
Our pediatricians' name is Dr. Nye...what's in a name? For us a great dr. :)
He's also close, our insurance covers him, and great with the kids.
Some days you have a long wait, sometimes you don't. Early morning appointments usually get done quickest.
Good luck!
